Youth Education

Sunday School

Our middle and high school youth are not just the future of our church, but an integral part of our church TODAY.  Their spiritual development is of the utmost importance and we encourage our youth to join our Sunday School classes, DIVE on Wednesdays, and EYC Sunday afternoons.

Confirmation

Confirmation classes are currently being planned and arranged. If your youth would like to get confirmed, please contact Father Gordon.

Youth Programming

EYC

On Sunday afternoons, we have our EYC or Episcopal Youth Community. From 12:30-1:45 our Middle & High School youth meet and talk about our views. Both groups meet individually, but come together at the start for shared community time.

Due to COVID-19, we have currently suspended in person meetings for our youth and their protection.  We will let you know when EYC resumes with in person meetings.

DIVE

DIVE is the the High School group of youth who want to diver deeper into their faith. We will meet every 1st and 3rd week of the month on Wednesdays in the youth room from 7:15-8:15. All High School youth are invited.

Due to COVID-19, we have currently suspended in person meetings for our youth and their protection.  Please be on the lookout for an announcement regarding coming together via Zoom conference meeting.

Service

Church of the Common Ground

Church of the Common Ground

Church of the Common Ground

The youth take a visit to the Church of the Common Ground once a year. Church of the Common Ground is an Episcopal Church that serves our homeless population in Atlanta. We make sandwiches to go in bagged lunches that we hand out after the service. It's a very powerful experience to serve our community in this way.

Men's Extension

Church of the Common Ground

Church of the Common Ground

The youth make a meal for the men at Men's Extension in Marietta every other month. The youth bring the supplies, cook, and serve the meal to those in need.

Involvement in the Service

Acolytes

Our youth help us worship by helping at the altar. Whenever they get the urge to carry the torch, they're allowed to begin acolyting. Over time, they move up to Crucifer, where they carry the cross in. The Crucifer also helps the priest set the table before the Eucharist. Contact Meg for more information.

Diocesan Events

Diocesan Youth Service Day

The Youth Service Day had a great turnout this year and we look forward to next year's event.  More details to come. It's an all day event that includes lunch. This is a great time to get some service hours and to hear about serving in our community. For our youth who went on the mission trip, this will be a time to do some follow ups with the organizations you served.

Happening

Happening is a spiritual renewal weekend for high school youth, led by high school youth. The weekend focuses on growing closer in your own faith by listening to talks, and reflecting in small groups. Second semester freshman and up can go to the weekend. The weekend takes place at Camp Mikell in Toccoa, Ga. The weekend costs $100.

The next Happening is TBD.

New Beginnings

New Beginnings is a spiritual renewal weekend for middle school youth, led by high school youth and adults. The weekend focuses on relationships between our friends, family, and God. Youth in 6th grade and above can come. High School youth can serve on team, even if they’ve never come before. Meg has helped run the weekend in the past and would love to answer questions.

The next New Beginnings is TBD. High School team applications are here.  Middle School registration is here.

Youth Lock In at Annual Council

While Annual Council is voting on new decisions in the church, the youth get together to hang out and have a lock in. The youth lead the service for Annual Council the next morning.

Jr. DYC

Jr. DYC is for our middle school youth. It's held at Camp Mikell. It's like going to summer camp during a weekend in the winter. We have small groups, afternoon activities, play games, sing songs and get closer with our friends from around the diocese.

Sr. DYC

Sr. DYC is for our high school youth. It's held at Camp Mikell. It's like going to summer camp during a weekend in the winter. We have small groups, afternoon activities, play games, sing songs and get closer with our friends from around the diocese.
